Academic LinkShare ist ein Netzwerk von Bibliotheken, das eine technische und organisatorische Infrastruktur für den Aufbau und die Pflege eines gemeinsamen Datenpools fachlich relevanter Internetquellen aus dem Fachcluster der Wirtschafts-, Rechts-, Politik- und Regionalwissenschaften entwickelt hat und dauerhaft betreibt.

ist das Motto des Verbundes Academic LinkShare. Aufbau und Pflege bibliothekarisch erschlossener Linksammlungen (Fachinformationsführer) sind ein ressourcenintensiver Prozess. Vor dem Hintergrund eines vergleichsweise hohen überschneidungsgrads fachlich relevanter Quellen in benachbarten Disziplinen – er liegt bei den institutionellen Quellen im Verbund bei ca. 30% – haben die Verbundpartner von Beginn an die Idee der kooperativen Erschließung verfolgt und das Modell des „Metadata Sharing“ technisch und organisatorisch entwickelt und umgesetzt. Das technische System: LinkShare System
Das LinkShare System (LSS) ist ein modulares System, das für die kooperative Erschließung und Verwaltung digitaler Netzobjekte konzipiert wurde. Dazu gehören u.a. Internetquellen, wissenschaftliche Volltexte, (elektronische) Zeitschriften oder Fach- und Faktendatenbanken. Die Erfassung der Quellen erfolgt webbasiert über eine Erfassungsmaske durch die kooperierenden Institutionen.
Inzwischen beteiligen sich Einrichtungen aus ganz Deutschland an der Erschließung der Quellen mit unserem System, das seit Juni 2001 im Einsatz ist. Mehr über das LinkShare System

Warum ein eigenes technisches System neu entwickeln? Der Verbund Academic LinkShare bietet allen Interessenten aus dem sozial- und geisteswissenschaftlichen Umfeld die Möglichkeit, dem Verbund beizutreten und die technische und organisatorische Infrastruktur für den Aufbau und den Betrieb einer eigenen Virtuellen Fachbibliothek zu nutzen. Die Kooperationspartner der Verbundpartner von Academic LinkShare
Die Katalogisierung von Internetquellen ist sehr zeitintensiv. Durchschnittlich benötigt man für die Erschließung einer Quelle gut 30 bis 45 Minuten. Hinzu kommen noch Aufwände für eine kontinuierliche Qualitätsprüfung. Für eine Bibliothek allein ist das kaum zu schaffen. Viele ALS-Verbundpartner haben in der Projektlaufzeit ein Netzwerk von Kooperationspartnern aufgabeut, die im Rahmen ihrer zeitlichen und personellen Möglichkeiten sich am Bestandsaufbau und an der Bestandspfelge beteiligen. Die Art der Unterstützung ist dabei sehr unterschiedlich. Während sich die einen Kooperationspartner auf das Vorschlagen neuer Quellen konzentrieren, übernehmen andere die Erschließung der vorgeschlagenen Quellen oder zeichnen sich für die laufende Qualitätskontrolle verantwortlich.
Der Aufbau und die Betreuung des Partnernetzwerkes liegt in der alleinigen Verantwortung der jeweiligen Betreiber der ViFa. Ob und ggf. wie viele Kooperationspartner geworben werden sollen, entscheidet jeder Verbundpartner für sich. Das technische System stellt jedoch sicher, dass
- auch biliothekarisch ungeschulte Personen sich an der Erschließung beteiligen können,
- das Logo der Kooperationspartner an allen von ihnen betreuten Datensätzen sichtbar ist,
- jeder Kooperationspartner auch einen Abzug seiner Quellen erhalten kann, wenn er es denn möchte.
Nicht unerwähnt bleiben soll, dass der Aufbau eines Partnernetzwerkes durchaus zeitintensiv ist und dass das Netzwerk auch nach dem Auslaufen der Projektlaufzeit betreut werden muss. Die Erfahrungen zeigen jedoch, dass die Vorteile der kooperativen Erschließung auch auf diesem Gebiet überwiegen. Nicht zuletzt bietet der Aufbau des Netzwerks gute Möglichkeiten, den Dienst in der eigenen Fachcommunity zu verankern und damit den Bekanntheitsgrad und die Akzeptanz der Wissenschaftler zu steigern.
